Hey hey hey! Today I’m going to review TIA’M’s Anti-Pollution Salt Facial Scrub. It comes in an 80ml tub with a $15-20 price tag. This is my first time using a product from this brand. TIA’M is actually a sister brand of CosRX. Also, they are the ones who made the ever famous OST C20 Vitamin C Serum before rebranding to TIA’M.
The featured ingredient is….badabadabam! Sea Salt! Not many people know that salt can be used for cosmetic purposes. Saline solution is used on cuts for healing because its composition is similar to that of our blood (literally rubbing salt in the wound haha) so it won’t sting and irritate the skin. The same property helps calm inflammation and redness.
Product Details and Claims
“A natural salt facial scrub gently exfoliates and instantly transforms rough and dull skin into radiant and smooth complexion.”
Its four main claims are pore purifying, removing dead skin, healing acne and skin inflammation, and hydrating while regulating oil-water balance.
How To Use
(1) Spread an appropriate amount on a dry face, avoiding eye and lip areas, and gently massage the face
(2) Gently roll on the area of dead skin cells and enlarged pores, leave for 5-10 minutes
(3) Wash off with water
Ingredients
I couldn’t find any English ingredients list, so I will translate it to the best of my ability since I don’t trust Google Translate lol:
Glycerin, Sodium Chloride(20%), Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Polysorbate 20, Dipropylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Polyacrylate-13, Polyisobutene, Polysorbate 20, Green Tea Extract, Rosa Davurica Bud Extract, Gomchwi Extract, Chlorphenesin, Fragrance
Yeah…. Not really sure why they put Polysorbate 20 twice.
Packaging
The hard plastic container holds 80 ml of product, with a plastic cover under the top of the jar, pretty basic. It doesn’t come with a spatula though.
Scent
It mainly smells sweet, like a sugar scrub and melted candy, and you can’t smell the sea salt. Sea salt barely smells like anything anyway though.
Performance
This facial scrub is significantly stickier than other physical exfoliants I’ve used. Its texture somewhat resembles a soft melted caramel candy. I don’t use physical exfoliators often, because most are too rough, and scratch and scrub at the skin, even if you massage and roll very gently. To my pleasant surprise, the salt particles were quite smooth and gentle, very much unlike scrubbing blocks of sea salt on your face.
The stickiness of the scrub makes it seem like it will drag your skin, but as you roll and massage it, it becomes a bit thinner and easier to spread. If you want to make it even thinner, you can add a little bit of toner (or water, or any liquid less viscous than the scrub) and it will be much easier to spread. Another way to soften the texture is by waiting it out. The natural heat from your body will slowly melt the scrub and turn it creamy and soft.
Despite the scrub being sticky, it’s very easy to rinse off. After washing it off, I noticed some of the redder parts of my face had diminished. But while my face didn’t feel drier, it didn’t feel any more hydrated or moisturized than before.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this is an okay facial scrub. Usually, physical exfoliators leave your skin feeling softer than before. When I used this, my skin did feel refreshed, but not much softer than before. I like how the salt granules are soft and don’t scratch your face, but you do have to be gentle since it’s very sticky. I personally prefer Skinfood’s Rice Mask Wash off which is gentler, less pricey, and comes with more product (100g).
