REVIEW | LAGOM Cellup Gel to Water Cleanser
May 04, 2017
Finding the perfect cleanser is one of the hardest things to achieve in a skincare routine. It needs to clean effectively without messing up the acid mantle and ruining the moisture barrier. Usually, I find that many second cleansers are missing one of those three things. Luckily, when I was strolling through Target one day, I found the Lagom Cellup Gel to Water Cleanser on clearance. So I did some quick research on my phone and decided to buy it! On Peach & Lily this retails for $18.00, but it’s $17.00 at Target, and with the clearance discount it was $11.90. It comes in a 220 ml squeeze tube.

How to Use
(1) A.M.: Apply to a slightly damp face, massage, and rinse. Perfect for a morning cleanse that won't strip skin dry.
(2) P.M. You can also use this cleanser as a follow-up to your oil cleanser or makeup remover. Note: this cleanser will not remove heavy, stubborn or waterproof makeup easily. An oil cleanser should be used first.
(3) For your very light non-waterproof makeup days: If you only have very light makeup on, this can also be used as a 2-in-1 in a pinch. Apply to dry skin and massage gently to remove makeup and cleanse at once.

I mostly use this as a second cleanser, and sometimes as my only night cleanser if I’m not double cleansing. I occasionally use this as a morning cleanser if I’m feeling kind of dull or grimy to freshen up. And I prefer to use it wet to massaging it on dry skin.

Packaging
It comes in a translucent squeeze tube, pretty basic. It looks like a tube of hair gel! When I travel this summer, I’m probably going to decant this into a small pump bottle.
Scent
It has a very faint scent, kind of like soap. There are hints of lemon in it too. It smells fresh and clean, and the scent goes away while cleansing.
This cleanser feels slightly thinner than your typical gel cleanser. It’s very easy and comfortable to spread and massage on your face. After massaging it melts into a more watery but still gel-like texture. Also, it doesn’t bubble up or create foam, but I’m okay with that. The pH of this cleanser is 5, so it passes the low pH cleanser test! I have tried this cleanser all 3 ways mentioned above, and I feel that it works best as a light, refreshing second cleanser. I don’t use it often as a morning cleanser because most mornings I just wash my face with water.
After massaging the product, only the concealer and sunscreen is completely gone |
Its makeup removing power is pretty weak. At best, it will probably remove light base makeup and sunscreen, nothing heavy duty! But just as a skin cleanser, it is seriously the best cleanser I’ve ever used. It leaves my face feeling clean without feeling dry at all. Some low pH cleansers (gel or foam) still leave my skin feeling a bit tight or dry. This cleanser makes my skin feel like all the dirt was peeled off and leaves me with soft refreshed skin. This cleanser is super gentle too, and would seem to work for most skin types.
After using it a second time with water, then washing it off |
Final Thoughts
I think I’ll have to give this cleanser a Holy Grail status. I haven’t found a cleanser as gentle as this that still cleans well and doesn’t make my face feel uncomfortable. The tube is also really big, and with the clearance sale, it’s worth it.
